Despite the price cuts for the amazon kindle family of readers, it seems unlikely that Amazon will be too worried about any adverse impact on their profits. Reader prices were bound to fall – and they will fall further, probably to the point where e-book readers cost no more than a good mp3 player. The real money will be made by the sale of e-books in future. Amazon have done a great job in getting any number of free Kindle apps on the market to allow users of different devices to read Kindle books without a Kindle reader. Each of these apps is a retail outlet for Amazon – that’s why they will continue to be a driving force in the future of digital publishing.
