I am old enough to remember the very first home video games.  We had an Intellivision.  The first game was a Ping Pong Video game called pong.  At first it was a bit of a challenge, because the ball bounced around everywhere, not just straight and forth.  It wasn’t long though until we realized that if you set the paddles just right you could walk away and leave the game running, it would just bounce back and forth by itself.  My kids look at things like that and wonder what fun it would have been.  With the Wii, XBox, PlayStation, and even the iPod Touch, video games are just a part of daily life any more.
