Hard rock music originated in the 1960’s. It is defined as a much harder and heavier version of rock and roll, with an emphasis on electric instruments and effects. The early bands of hard rock include Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and The Who. Deep Purple released four albums in the 1960’s, with the fourth one, In Rock, being the heaviest and most influential of the four in the development of hard rock music. Led Zeppelin’s self-titled debut album had a more blues-oriented origin to it, along with The Who’s Live at Leeds, and both went on to become very popular and shaped the foundations for hard rock.
